Botching a roll to resist frenzy causes a derangement. Resisting frenzy requires five successes on an extended action. A character my elect not to resist the Frenzy (“riding the wave”), in which case they retain some ability to direct it, and may spend willpower to fully control it for a turn. Conscience is rolled to resist hunger frenzy, Self Control is rolled to resist rage frenzy, and Courage is rolled to resist rotschreck. Unlike subsequent editions, different varieties of Frenzy are resisted with different virtues. Stakes are discussed, and said to need five successes to penetrate the heart. Notably, fire seems to cause aggravated damage to everyone, not just Kindred. The only way to prematurely overcome torpor is mentioned in the rules is the use of elder blood. A character who has slept for the prescribed amount of time may spend 1 WP per turn to take action until he or she acquires blood. Entering Torpor knocks a point off of a physical attribute, and one can’t leave Torpor without having new blood introduced into one’s system.

After blood pool is exhausted, the vampire enters torpor for a period determined by Humanity. When a vampire is brought to incapacitated, further wound levels are taken off his or her blood points. Interesting points include the fact that a dead mortal can be embraced for up to five minutes. There’s also an odd section noting that each “point” of elder blood consumed actually lets the character consume 1/5 of the elder’s blood pool because it’s concentrated - I would think it should be 1/10 – and that animals are less filling.Ī section on injury follows.
